Dr. Md. Sagir Ahmed is an accomplished Senior University Professor with over 28 years of expertise in Zoology, Fisheries and Biotechnology, dedicated to advancing sustainable development through natural resource management. He is recognized for pioneering research in Biodiversity through DNA barcoding, with a robust portfolio of over 1600 barcode sequences representing more than 500 species (Marine and freshwater fishes, Shrimp, Crabs, Snakes, Mollusks, Amphibians etc.) including 56 species of new records from Bangladesh deposited in NCBI GenBank having public access. He has established a proven track record in teaching and research, with a strong commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment and mentoring future scholars. Dr. Ahmed completed his doctoral studies (Ph.D.) in Japan and post-doctoral research in Germany, the UK, and Japan, gaining advanced research experience. He also completed his Honors and Master’s degrees in Zoology at the University of Dhaka. He has served as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator for over 25 research projects on biodiversity, biotechnology, fisheries, environmental pollution and toxicity, funded by organizations such as BAS-USDA, USAID, DFID, the World Bank, PKSF, HEQEP, UGC, and GoB. He was born into a respected Muslim family in the Brahmanbaria district.
